Sketchy and hastily put together. Despite having been updated several times, this guidebook still gets the orientation of Corso Vittorio Emmanuele in Palermo wrong. It does not run north to south. This is based on an Italian publication so there's really no excuse. It also doesn't tell you how to get from the airport to Palermo. The photos are ok though.

This is THE WORST guide book in the world. Local people of Sicily seem to be the best guides for me. I spent a week in Sicily and every place I visited I would refer to this book. But all these pompous authors wrote were sarcastic and frankly insulting to Sicily. This guide completely avoids how beautiful the Aoelian Islands are, where each island is different and diverse and some with living volcanoes. The only benefit I got from this book was when I was quoting it with locals I met on my travels and at laugh how bad this book really is. Seriously, you can travel to Sicily armed with just a map and phrase book. I wished I did because this rough guide was heavy!

This is the first time I have used Blue Guide Sicily. Being a local myself, I have always been quite pedantic and fussy about how detailed and accurate information on Sicily has been researched and presented. I can only say that this is a fantastic guide, very detailed in the historical and artistic descriptions and also very "poetic" in the "quasi-visual" descriptions of the places and of the Sicilian people. The guide gives accurate listings of hotels and places to eat and drink which are reasonably up-to-date and - thank God - not very "faddy". This is maybe a bit of a turnoff for the younger crowd looking for the "hottest spots". But if you are looking for well-established restaurants, bars and hotels with charm and history, this is the ... Read More:

i have only done a couple of the suggested walks and the detail is extraordinary. Also, the hints of how to arrive at the starting point helped me alot. and the fact that some of the walks are exactly what a outdoors enthusiast is after...namely the lesser known walks.

The book is very helpful and full of useful travel titbits when travelling round Sicily, pointing out interesting features of each of the main regions and recommended places to visit. The walking tour in Palermo was excellent, and the beaches highlighted were exceptional. The restaurant recommendations were fantastic, though the great hotel we stayed in was not mentioned in the guide, despite there only being a few hotels in the town itself.

You will need, however, to supplement the book with a language guide if you do not speak Italian, as it contains only the most basic phrases, and it would be helpful to expand on these when required. Furthermore, a more detailed map or sat-nav should be used to travel around, rather than relying ... Read More:

Many people will have seen Matthew Fort on Great British Menu or read his Guardian columns over the years. His passion for food is totally infectious. And behind his affable demeanour is a sharp mind, wonderful eye for detail and delightfully involving use of language. On this journey around Sicily he also shows an awful lot of himself. It is a very personal journey. It shows not only a sense of the history of the places he visits, it also tells a lot about his own self; his family relationships, his strength of character, his willingness to engage anyone and everyone in his quest. You sense how hard such a journey is; the loneliness of several weeks on a scooter, the uncertainty of what you will find. This is a rare book as it is readable ... Read More:
