This is my favourite Disney movie. The backgrounds are detailed and stylised like a series of medieval tapestries. The intergration of the characters in what look like the best sets ever designed for a semi-swashbuckling musical/comedy/thriller is stunning.
I still get frightened when the fire goes out and Maleficent appears to tempt Aurora through the back of the fireplace (Maleficent being a truly evil villainess). The score is superbly used in these scenes. Brilliant stuff.

now it may be a classic, but i'm afraid i was really disappointed with this film. my 5 yr old was frankly bored watching this, it was very slow to get moving. the story line was not what i was expecting. the jimmney cricket / conscience was to abstract for him to understand in the way it was presented. and there was a terrible bit later on with pinnochio getting drunk and smoking cigars. that bit raised a few tricky questions.

what i had expected the main story line to be - pinnochio's nose growing long when he lied, occured only once for about 20 seconds in the middle of the film and never again.

we will not be watching this one again
sadly not enjoyable or educational

Pete (Sean Marshall) is a poor orphan. He's been adopted by the mean Gogan family run by the matriarch Lena (Shelley Winters). The Gogans make him work from morning til night and beat him for the slightest thing.

So, naturally, he runs away. Only this time he has help in the form of Elliot. Elliot is a dragon. And while he doesn't always think about what he's doing, he means well. And he really wants to help Pete.

Pete and Elliot happen to find the town of Passamaquoddy on the coast of Maine. Their first trip through town doesn't go well, so they find themselves out by the lighthouse, where they make friends with Lampie (Mickey Rooney) the lighthouse keeper and his adult daughter Nora (Helen Reddy). Have they found a real home at last?

I couldnt believe that I found this! I have been describing this film to people for years and no-one believed me. I saw it in infant school every christmas and it formed a subconcious love of samba. Its a little like an acid trip in rio so god knows what other subconcious thoughts were planted. Watch it, its a trip.

Jerry is a boy growing up on a farm back in the times of "Grundy's General Store" and everyone getting excited when the train comes through town. One calm night, the now-born baby lambs came into the world. They were all healthy little things, but one had black wool instead of white. Jerry, seeing this pathetic little thing, had some sort of connection with it, and loved it from the start. However, Granny didn't aprove of this situation, for she knew that it wouldn't earn it's keep, and it would eventually become a pet. But Jerry was persistant, and he won. After getting some advice from the wise old owl, Danny, (that's what Jerry named the lamb), progressed into a fine sheep, who often got into mischief. Granny was stubborn about selling Danny, but... but... well, maybe you should see the movie for yourself.

We had this on video when I was a child and I watched it so many times that the tape got worn out and I couldn't anymore. I was heartbroken! and also very glad to see it now available on DVD!

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Archimedes yet - he and Merlin vie for best character in my opinion. A fluffy, pompous, talking owl! Quote:
'Archimedes - you saved my life!'
*looks grumpy* 'Pf pf pf pf pf, I was going to eat you.'
