From the first track 'Bruca Manigua' (which you will replay over and over) to the last. This album is simply Unbelievable. I only discovered Buena Vista with the free Movie cd with my Sunday Times a couple of weeks ago and Ibrahim Ferrer is just an undiscovered Legend in my books. Well, up till the last few years of his life. GET THIS!!!

When the lights came up in the cinema where we saw Wim Wenders' movie of the same name, we saw grown adults weeping. This is more than a band, it is a musical phenomenon. Such a synergy is rare in this day and age, and the vibe on this album is just fantastic. Buy it and weep, because you have missed your chance to ever see or hear Ruben Gonzales, Compay Segundo or Ibrahim Ferrer playing live with the band again, but the remaining members still tour and the band is organic, progressing through the years with younger, equally talented musicians, so if you see a gig advertised and can get to it, don't miss it! This album has changed many lives...

I have just read David Garcia's book "Arsenio Rodríguez: and the transnational flows of Latin Popular music". Luckily, there are now a few original recordings available of this son montuno style master. He was copied by many of the younger salsa performers, like Johnny Pacheco and many others, but was often barred from performing on the major stages. Racism, his own lack of adaptation to the big town up beat tastes, and for other reasons, Rodriguez was forgotten by many. Mirabal's record consists only of Rodriguez' music, which is more subtle, intricate, and challenges the dancers to feel the music, not only the beat of the drums. Read the book, listen to Mirabal, and then go to the source!

Amazing, brilliant, finger clicking magic. After the Buena Vista Social Club I didn't think it could be matched, but this has and then some. I am now going to buy everything on the World Circuit CD list. Ruben Gonzalez is a true master of his trade, and I honestly recommend any type of music lover to take a risk. Gooo aannnn!!

In Chanchullo we see the return of Ruben Gonzalez back to Buena Vista form. With his fantastically articulate and innovative piano improvisation, Ruben is at his very best! This album has definite appeal to Buena Vista Social club aficionados, tracks such as Choco's Guajira reminiscent of Candela and Chan Chan. The immersive Latin rhythm section brings out the magic of Gonzalez and I guarantee it will make you move! It is also impossible to find a better example of sheer brilliance, when it comes to Latin/jazz piano. I would recommend this CD to absolutely everyone!

The world outside Cuba discovered Ibrahim Ferrer's soft, smoky vocals through the release of the Grammy-winning "Bueno Vista Social Club" released on the World Circuit/Nonesuch label. Ferrer sang four of the 12 non-instrumental tunes on the album. With Ry Cooder, he later recorded two further CD's for the label (in 1999 and 2003, respectively.) Ibrahim Ferrer's favourite musical form was the "bolero." In 2005, he set out to record an album featuring only such pieces. Ferrer died in August 2005 before having completed the project. As other reviewers have put it, simply fantastic, energetic music!! It also corresponds well to the Buena Vista 2007 tour sound, which has gone more to the brassy band sound. Essential, 'nuff said?

If you like real musicians playing music that sounds alive, then this is worth buying. Omara is a talent indeed, and this album shows of her style greatly with an excellent collection of songs.
