I bought a TomTom 720 in March 2008 and totally regret doing so. Soon after purchase the device would occasionally turn itself off for no reason. These episodes got more regular until it eventually only stayed on for a few seconds.
I sent the unit back for repair, being told that it usually takes 5-7 working days to turn around. After some very expensive 'hold the line' phone calls to the elusive customer support and a 1 month wait (waiting for parts they said), I received the repaired unit back. They obviously are not competent in the repairs field, as the unit still does not work.
To make matters worse, as well as returning my device, they also sent me a repaired device belonging to another customer, which I now have to ... Read More:

This Tom Tom is very badly designed. Even though it still has the same easy to use interface (which is still great) it has many other faults:

1) The mop thing that sticks to the windscreen is not good at sticking to anything so the unit keeps falling off.

2) The combined power/data connector is at the bottom of the Tom Tom and that has meant that the connector has come loose after falling onto the dash so many times. Now the power connector is damaged and I am constantly trying to re-adjust the cable to get it to charge. This is not a safe thing to do while driving.

3) The latest thing to happen is that the unit is now switching off and showing a battery warning even when the power is connected. I have now ... Read More:

I've had the 520T for 6 months now. It was my first Sat Nav and I'm very pleased. The main device is very easy to use and has been genuinely helpful, even though I rarely drive long distance without a passenger. The plug-in traffic aerial only gives information on major roads like motorways and hasn't always been accurate, so next time I'd get just the 520 without Traffic (Tom Tom are bringing a new Traffic add-on to the UK next year, which promises to be much better, though more expensive).

I'd give the 520 itself five stars and the current Traffic aerial two stars, hence four overall.

Having recently had self inflicted problems with my TomTom (my son plugged in the wrong charger and blew it up!) I posted my system to Tomtom free of charge after they first sent me all the packaging, to have it returned in under a week fully repaired - again, no charge. I am extremely impressed with the service provided, it could not have been better.
I have always been satisfied with my TomTom for ease of use and accuracy. It came into it's own during a holiday in France. Highly recommended all round.

well I bought one as we were taking our caravan to Scotland touring for a month, I bought it on the saturday as we were off on the Sunday morning, I set it for a campsite in Jedburgh and it took us right to the site entrance, warned me of several speed cams which were well hidden in tree cover (naughty speed cam) well I was towing my caravan lol then took me up to Edinburgh once again right to the site entrance, to cut a long story short it took me to the next site but commanded me to turn left into a tiny mudtrack lane (oops) when the site was actually on the opposite side of the road, fortunately i was going to fast to follow the instruction,we approached the entrance after going further down the road and doing the famous U Turn,So far so good finally we decided to stop dodging the rain drops ... I have had this item in my car for over a year now and I have had no problems with it at all.
I would honestly recommend it as it certainly does the job that it is designed to do.

This item is quite simply not fit for purpose. I bought it in order to attach to the dashboard of my Focus - not the flattest dashboard in the world, granted, but I figured that with a good suction cup and a lock it might work. Apparently not - this refused flat out to attach to anything at all inside the car except the windscreen, which is what I wanted to avoid (the tell-tale rings on the windscreen being a beacon to all would-be thieves and vandals). It doesn't hold it's suction well either - on the completely flat desk at work it won't stay attached for more than a few seconds before inexplicably falling over (even when there's no sat nav on it). It seems to go from full suction to zero suction without any human intervention or knocks.

Additionally what was delivered was not a TomTom ... Read More:

I recently purchase a Go520 and got the iPod cable with it, the ability to listen to music via the SatNav unit was a great benefit. Before the directions would get drowned out by my music, now the music fades and the directions are crystal clear. In addition I can control my iPod via the TomTom and have both units provide sound via my in car radio. A perfect addition for anybody who likes to listen to music whilst travelling.

I bought this unit in January 2008, and have used it about six times "for real".

Now, it has developed a loose or broken wire, so it no longer works. I'm awaiting TomTom's response on a warranty replacement. I don't think it is built sturdily enough for repeated connection and disconnection, which is a bind if you are security-minded.

I dismantle the unit and the TomTom XL it's attached to each time I leave the car and I find the set up of the aerial is just too fiddly, which is why I haven't used it much except for major long distance journeys. I tend to know where the traffic builds up locally and the ways round jams on regular routes anyway.

I settled on the "down the centre of the screen, behind the rear view mirror" position for the aerial, as that seemed to give ... Read More:

Poor poor item. My other half has the standard Tom Tom device and I actually prefer that.
Raging about mine this evening as I had sat in a queue for forty minutes before it told me there was a problem - despite tapping my traffic column for updates numerous times. It then tried to direct me through town!
A usual forty minute journey took two hours.
It does not pick up usual traffic hotspots on my various journeys home either.
I also find it cannot calculate a useful alternative route, and I am relying on my own knowledge, or that thing they call 'a map'.
I bought the thing for home visits in my job but it doesn't seem to to be able to find its way out of the car park.
So no, I don't like it.
