Okay, i'm up to date with modern technology and a bit behind when it comes with virus protection, lets say not as experienced as some and probably one of the youngest to comment on a product. I currently am using Norton nternet Security and thought about buying this product. But one word of advice you should consider. At the start the sign up to "Norton" is free. For a whole year it will do its job successfully, it does benefit from a simple user interface and isn't doesn't regularly demand attention. Its good for that i sing its praise. But after one year of the product, exactly 365 days. The product basically turns off. Its still monitors the basics but no longer recieves updates, so the risk is the same as before. Then comes the constant ... Read More:

One thing about Symantec products is they work, if you just want a good anti-virus scanner that is simple to use and that is simple to keep up to date then this is the answer. The user interface if minimal, allowing you to scan your drives individually or all at once as well as manually running the update program. Other than installing it and letting it run a full system scan every now and then there is nothing to do, the software runs in the background; along with the auto updater.

The product is an absolute joke. And the Technical Support / Customer Service at Symantec is even worse.

1.) Upon Starting the PC I am greeted with multiple pop-ups - Virus Definitions Out of Date and Virus Scan Out of Date etc etc. On entering the software everything is ok.....
2.) The system seems to hang on the "one button check up" during the Norton Cleanup scan and then after 30 minutes will find files to clean up. Example found 763 then cleaned. Immediately ran again and found 1091, then cleaned (again). Immediately ran again and found 2111.
3.) Have used Symantec Chat on 4 occasions and each time they tell me that it is sorted. When I start the computer again, the problems start again.

On the 4th ... Read More:

Loading this "upgrade" removed all the antispam and parental controls set with my previous package. Had to go into Symantec's website to download their "free" add-on pack to remedy that little problem (without access to broadband, as I live in a rural area, this process took over 2 hours). Also, when you run the updates it immediately goes to express mode, and if you want interactive mode so you can choose what new updates to load you have to go through the Windows Start menu rather than the Symantec window!!! All the new graphics were totally unnecessary. Very poor product development.

I was looking for a program like this for a while. I wanted something that just fixed things without other unwanted utilities like back-up and Anti-virus. Its a bit like Norton utilities used to be.
The program is very easy to install and use. Once installed, you can carry out a 1-click maintenance, which can attend to all kind of common problems. There are also quite a few other utilities included for improving performance. Very difficult to go wrong with no annoying activation requirements.
I wish I had saw it here prior to buying it direct from the Tune-up website, as its half the price from Amazon.

I upgraded my daughter's computer from Norton Internet Security 2005 to 2007 but it would would not complete properly - it would not run and locked up the computer. I tried to uninstall but it would not allow me to do this - eventually I managed to reboot and do a system recovery back to before the installation. No way am I going to try it on any of our other machines.

If you are thinking of buying it, google "norton user forum" and look on the Topix site. At the last check, there were over 200 people reporting problems with this product. How on earth do they test their software - certainly not on the average user's setup!!!

I have been using Ghost 10 for quite a while. Ghost 10 didn't have the most intuitive of intuitive of interfaces but I quickly got used to its quirks. I had read that the new program had made this all a lot clearer and on first sight it is. It is much larger with nice pie charts and graphics showing you information about what backups you have. After struggling with it for hours, I decided it was far less intuitive or just the same but involving more operations. If you want to delete recovery points, what do you want - tasks or tools? What these people never seem to do when designing these things is to ask their secretaries or girl friends to sit down and try and work it out. They might get some useful suggestions.

The additional feature not found ... Read More:

The problems that people are having with this Software is the way that it tries to make the image of your Hard drive, the default settings for this version of Ghost is it tries to do it all in one big chunk. Which is where it fails if peoples External Hard Drives are Fat32 File System, as it will save only 4Gb Clusters at a time, which was ok for earlier versions of Ghost, but as i found to my cost it isn't ok for this version.

I found this out after a lengthy on line chat with Symantec technical Support, i also asked them as to why there isn't information on this in the product packaging, because if it was then people wouldn't be giving it such negative feedback, they said they'd pass the feedback on.

So basically all you need to do to get ... Read More:

SD is, in my opinion, a great product, but I have established (after many years of use) that their customer service is truly dreadful.

Recently, I took out a subscription for Spyware Doctor . I had had a previous version of SD with Antivirus, but didn't want to pay for antivirus software I don't need/want, so I uninstalled the old version and bought a completely NEW subscription of SD (ONLY). I downloaded the software and ran the executable, following the instructions, but when I click on the 'Spyware Doctor' shortcut (or go through start>programs), I am told that I need to perform a Smart Update to download the malware removal databases (it doesn't open up the regular SD window). If I click on this it tries to go into a smart update and then tells me that my subscription ... Read More:

Microsoft are getting cocky again - this has possibly the worst user interface I have ever encountered complete with terrible visual style, appears to have been designed to be deliberately counterintuitive with the loss/change of many shortcuts as well as the loss of menus, and I did not notice a single new feature.

Get OpenOffice or stick with office 2003.
