Infact, this is better than Peep show. It's a funny look at real life, and at no point do you think "that would never happen". Every epsiode practically has me peeing myself with laughter. Although its called Gavin and Stacey, I actually think the show is all about Smithy, Nessa and Bryn, as well as Gavin's parents, as they are the best characters. I've lent series one to loads of people, and they've all loved it. I can't reccommend it enough. Comedy genius.

Hi... Sadly, this was not the hidden gem I'd hoped for (Black books and Sugar Rush cetainly were). It is realistic and the acting is good. I did watch each episode of series one, looking forward to what would be happening next because each episode finishes with a kind of cliffhanger or crisis point I found it confusing and frustrating that the exact endings of each episode are not continued into the following episode, but you do soon get the gist of the events and emotions in the characters' lives... and that's what I found boring.... With the exception of Louise, I didn't like any of the main characters.... so selfish, self-obsessed and closed. But worse, they are rubbish friends. ... Read More:

Very well written,excellent casting,its great that we have the ability to laugh at ourselves,we have all met these people on holiday at some point...EXCELLENT.

The best I could muster watching this was an odd smile. Brydon's performance is brilliant and the writing is excellent but this show is not very funny. If it is a comedy then it is the blackest I've ever seen. Watching somebody who is obviously a bit slow go through a heart breaking divorce, separation from his kids and generally get kicked around and not even trying to fight back is if anything a bit disturbing. Would give 5 if it was drama but just find hard to find funny which I think is the point of comedy. Am I missing something?

This is undoubtedly the best thing to ever come out of BBC 3. It solidifies Rob Brydon's reputation not only as a sharp standup, improvisor, impressionist and actor, but also as a great writer. After Peep Show, this is my favourite comedy on TV. It's witty, deadpan, and hits the nail on the head every time. You won't regret buying this.

Series 1 was up there with Faulty Towers, Porridge and Only Fools and Horses. Then the BBC bottled it and didn't commission series 2, 3 and whatever based on the original premise where Alice and Gil would probably meet by the end of seies 2, and then take it from there. The BBC executive who dropped the ball at this point must be the son of the Decca A&R man that failed to sign up the Beatles. As a result, by the time Series 2 was commissioned, Gil had to be written out because the actor, Michael Landes, was no longer available. As a result, we now follow only one storyline, so viewing time has been halved, putting the new series into more familiar sitcom country. Am I really the only member of the general public who can see Rob Brydon for what he really is? (i.e. the poor man's Steve Coogan - just as Keith Barrett is the poor man's Alan Partridge). I mean, come on, the man can’t even have his ideas - he has to copy! I mean sure, during a 30 minute episode of any show featuring Brydon I'll manage to force out a laugh or two (if I'm very lucky & feeling generous! - hence the second star), but basically he just isn’t funny. It’s a real shame that Steve Coogan is doing very little television these days, especially when he’s being replaced with non-entities like Rob Brydon. So here we are back for a second series, and is it as good as the first one? In the words of Jacquelin "Oh yes!" In fact this latest series may even contain the best episode ever! And that's, in my opinion episode two - the one where new character Mel (Madge's new partner and owner of five sunbed shops) blings it up BIG TIME, by dressing up like John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever at the karaoke night. He then murders a classic song by attempting to sing it in the same high pitched vocal style as the original. It made me cry with laughter, and it's worth buying this DVD just for that episode alone. I received the box-set but disc one of series one had episodes 4-6 on it despite being labelled as having episodes 1-3. Therefore half of series 1 is missing from the set. Amazon have been really good about it and refunded my money because they are unable to supply a replacement. I would be careful ordering this and make sure you check the discs as soon as you receive them to ensure you have all the correct episodes. I note someone else had the same problem so maybe an early version was defective?

Having enjoyed the first series of the street I was very pleased that a second series was made and again it was brilliant.Outstanding acting in every episode from some of Britain's best actors and actresses. The storylines are very gritty and emotional at times and I must say that they not what you would call over the top.Very believable and overall I think this is what great television is all about.Recommended.
