This book does all it says on the tin and more. That is, it provides a perfect substitute for the manual that I would have hoped to have found in the box. But in fact it does much more than this, because it is written in a very readable style, and provides helpful tips and advice that one would not generally expect to find in the average software manual. I feel quite annoyed that I was nearly put off buying it because a couple of the earlier reviews said its presentation was poor. In my view the presentation is absolutely fine, it's perfectly adequate for its purpose, and is well up to the standard of presentation that one should expect for a book in this price bracket. I found Elements 6 for Dummies to be a confusing and unhelpful guide to a great software programme. It appears to have been written more to impress readers with the skills and knowledge of the authors rather than as suggested in the title as a simple vehicle to understand and use this feature rich ( is that too feature rich ?)programme. Does it really need 400 pages to explain the major features of Elements 6, I don't think so. Any number of photographic journals have shorter simpler guides to using photo enhancement software and you'll get lots of other photographic tips for your money.

This book is not for the beginner, but if you want to improve your editing skills I don't think you will find better. The included DVD is worth the money on its own. Thoroughly recommended.

PSE 6 is not that different to PSE5 so expecting the books to be major re-writes is a little naive. I have read and browsed a number of books on PSE6 and they only differ marginally from the previous versions but that reflects the minor upgrade in the software. My advice is do not buy the book for PSE6 if you already have the PSE 5 version. If you do not have any then this will prove an excellent book as so many of the others do.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 6: A Visual Introduction to Digital Photography Written by an Australian author, unfortunately, the book doesn't take into account jurisdictional variations. Specifically regarding the UK, for example, you can't create a Photobook with the Elements software to then automatically upload it as the finished product to have printed by the Adobe/Kodak website. You can only upload individual photos which you then rearrange on the Kodak website itself, thereby rendering any artwork you created in your Elements software obselete. One of the things I really like about this book is the way it carefully leads you step by step through all the stages you need to change your photographs into fantastic artistic images. Its a large subject but the book manages to successfully cover it all in an interesting and imaginative way, I found it well written and very informative. The book is broken down into 13 sections and covers just about everything a digital photographer could wish to know, the breadth & depth of the book is just excellent. If I was confused before I bought the book, I am even more confused now. I have a headache trying to do some of the things in this book. I think it might take me a month to figure it all out and that is if I do?? I don't think that this books is as clear and easy as it looks. Maybe I am visually impaired??

What a great book this is, it has something for everyone from outright beginners to advanced users and is just so easy to follow. It is divided into 12 sections: Selection Techniques, Montage Essentials, Hiding and Showing, Image Adjustments, Light and Shade, Transformation and Distortion, Materials and textures, Working with text, People and Animals, Shiny Surfaces, The Third Dimension and Print and the Internet. I read this book in about 4 hours. When I say 'read', I actually mean that I spent 4 hours ingesting Andy Rouse's self indulgent Wildlife portfolio. Andy manages to weave a woeful plug of his own work into every piece of advice on offer. Of all the pages, at least 50% of them are photo's. Andy's photo's, obviously. the text is large and each Chapter begins with a double page spread stating 'CHAPTER 3!!!! How to promote your own work in every way possible whilst camouflaging it in a self-help disguise'. As you can tell, I wasnt impressed. It tells you what to do, but very little on how to do it! for example..ensure you manage your files. back up your data. buy Photoshop CS3.
