One of the most poorly constructed and unengaging fantasy films I've ever seen. Also a showcase for demonstrating just how many good actors and actresses you can waste in one go. There are way too many problems with this film to go into, so im just going to say it is a total waste of your time any money.

If you've been living in a cave for months then you've probably not heard that Cloverfield is a film about a giant monster attacking Manhattan all seen through the perspective of a 20-something's hand-held camera. The film has been hyped for months ....to the point where I wasn't sure it could live up to the hype. Amazingly I think it did.

After the initial 15mins of character introduction and whatnot the film does not go 5mins minutes without a WHOA moment. Because it was filmed using a shaky camera Cloverfield was compared to The Blair Witch Project long before it hit the cinemas. For me that was what deterred me from seeing it. Thankfully in Cloverfield the shaky camera worked and the camera itself becomes a character of the ... Read More:

while the first national treasure was what i would describe as a bank holiday film, the ones that you carnt be bothered to switch over because you have had too much pie, this travesty of a film only engages you on the level that you keep watching to see if it could be anymore worse which it does in spades. i am glad i never bought it only rented, but then again i wish i could have my rental fee. The real shame of the film is that it has an inpressive list of actors who should sack their agents immediatly for signing them up to this bag of dingo's droppings

An interesting story, brought together by interesting talent, falls oddly short of expectations in this action movie with fantasy elements.
The stall is set out early, as an intro shows Hayden Christensen discovering his ability to teleport (jump) from place to place. He indulges himself with his ability, leaving behind the love of his teen life and living in style, until he meets another Jumper, played by Jamie Bell. They are tracked by the Paladin, a secret group led by Samuel Jackson who are hell bent on destroying Jumpers. And that's really about it - and I don't mean that I am saving the rest of the plot to avoid writing spoilers - that really is about it, it really devolves into a `does-he-get-the-girl' movie at this point, winding up after ... I expected to hate this computer generated cross between "300" and "Lord of the Rings", but I actually enjoyed it - a lot. It is cleverly and imaginatively realised and very gripping in parts. There are problems with the film - the CGI nature of it means that you don't really get any emotion from the characters; the story is disjointed in the middle; and there are elements of storyline that are never followed through (for example we never know why Beowolf's relationship with the queen doesn't work out, and John Malkovitch's character has great potential but is not used). Nevertheless, it is better than the host of comic book films around at present. If you like adult fantasy, you should take a look at Beowolf.

What might attract people to this film? It's a sci-fi story of good heritage, Kidman, Craig and Northam in lead roles and everything seemed to be in place for a riveting watch.

But it's not. It feels thin and unfulfilled throughout...the plot builds and builds and then it seems like the producers got bored with their own movie and brought the story to an abrupt end. I gave it two stars because Ms Kidman is always very watchable, but with Daniel Craig it reminded me of some of the naff films Roger Moore did alongside his tenure as bond. I'm sure Craig will shortly redeem himself in the next 007 outing.

There is some good atmospheric cinematography and stunt work, but everything considered it's a bit of a disappointment. And a waste of ... Read More:

This is an abomination to the great game. The 47 in the film isn't even albino, Timothy Oliphant looks and sounds like a 14 year old boy and has none of the trade characteristics of the in game 47 (the deep voice, the presence and the stern look of a man who is capable of killing). Why Timothy? look at the other good actors they could have chosen e.g. Jason Statham, The guy who does 47's voice in the game (he even looks the same because 47's appearance is based on the voice actors) and even dare i say Vin Diesel could have managed a much better job.

The plot has more holes than swiss cheese, and while watching it I wondered if the directors had even played the game or just looked at the front covers. Anyone who has played even one level in the game knows ... Read More:

This is a really strong action movie that addresses terrorism from another angle and I really found this a pleasant surprise. I am not sure the final scene is something that could really happen, and maybe you can argue that the FBI has too much of a "hero saving the day" role, but it did hold me stuck in front of the screen. This is fiction, and it does deliver a very good time.

Don't be fooled by the great trailer or stunning production design. Independence Day was good, The Day After Tomorrow was great, but this -in comparison- is just awful! The acting as absolutely terrible and the plot seems contrived and predictable. However, a star for some spectacular special effects and another for some awesome cinematography.

Still, a really disappointing effort from a director we know is capable of so much more.
