harrowing, infectual and experimental sounds make this a far superior offering to the pedestrian dummy.thats no too say dummy is lazy or derivative it has some great tracks and a consistant theme but i think it never really climaxed like this self titled lp. cringeworthy certainly not gorgeous and expressive absolutely rarely groups have the integrety to produce music that attempts something new and in doing so pushes the boundaries for a greater experience in their second helping i strongly reccomend this for anyone who is ready to emerce themselves in the greatness this sublime album has to offer

raf!!

This is SUCH a good album, with Alex Turner's nimble vocals to the fore set amidst some sumptuous string arrangements which take you right back to the 60s.
I heard this first whilst browsing in a music shop and instantly it touched a chord - and it only grows on you from there, with different songs staying in your head for days. You feel like dancing down Carnaby Street in your crushed velvet jacket when this is playing, with Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased of course) at your side. Trust me - and buy it. My album of the year.

I'm new to sigur ros - stumbled on to them via mtv 'inside me a lunatic sings' ('inni mer...', the 2nd track) it's on youtube.

very creative watchable band, please give a try if you like killers, muse, mgmt, beatles, arcade fire - this group has elements of all and we are going to enjoy this amazing talent for years to come hopefully. other tracks are on my first hearing are just as compelling. Better than bjork!

I've never been one for the jazz themed white noise thrashouts so beloved of Mr Pierce, but always loved the droney cathedral rock of his earlier days (which I appreciate is just as unmusical to some ears - I absolutely love Pure Phase). Ladies and Gentlemen is undoubtedly his masterpiece (jazz themed white noise thrashouts notwithstanding), but why oh why did I not buy a second copy and keep the first fresh in its pill box?

Anyway, post L&G the work declined. Some decent stuff on Let it come down, but I didn't bother with Amazing Grace. This is a return to form. I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer who said he might need a bit more inspiration when it comes to song titles, but the songs and music are back. I cannot stop listening ... Read More:

After reading some mediocre reviews of this album I was shocked when I finally heard it and it turned out that I really enjoyed listening to it. It's clearly a step away from the first album, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This album has much more of blues, kind of Nashville Skyline-era Bob Dylan, feel to it, and I personally think that their vocals work much better together here, whereas the first album often felt like one or other of the vocal tracks had simply been 'tagged on'.

All of the tracks on this album seem to gel together very well, and although there aren't really any stand-out 'single' type tracks, I do not think that this is a bad thing at all.

It might take a few listens to really get into it, but this is well ... Read More:

Other reviewers have said it all - I just want to clarify a couple of things
1) A couple of tracks here are not the same performances as on the companion video. One of them, Roads, was recorded at a festival (and certainly sounds like it!). The other - well, read on...
2) None of the tracks on this album deserve to be damned with the faint praise of "faithful reproduction of the originals". For one thing, they're all loud and vivid-sounding, with a fine balance of ambience and clarity (and this makes a particular difference to the second-album material - Cowboys is a speaker-blaster!). Elsewhere, Mysterons and Strangers have extended codas; Half Day Closing (with all its vocal processing intact) ends with a strange `Liberty Bell'-like sample (!); most ... Read More:

Have to agree with several other reviews I have read about this record making more sense after hearing it live. Had my doubts on first hearing "The Hungry Saw", but Tindersticks have always been a slow burner of a band. I owned "Curtains" for maybe a year before it worked its' way into my soul. You need to listen to this album several times before it works its' magic; but it is well worth the perserverance. Once it clicks, "The Hungry Saw" is simply gorgeous.

The reference points are obvious: King Tubby, Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack and film noir soundtracks. Back in the '90s Portishead were unfathomably cool and fashionable, and did much to popularise trip-hop. Portishead repackaged soul and jazz music, and sold it to critics who had no real interest in those genres. Tellingly, the album received the prestigious Mercury Music prize in 1995, confirming its status among indie rock critics as that years' most highly regarded novelty record.

For all of Portishead's apparent cynicism, it would be easy to overlook if not for their irritatingly pretentious singer. Beth Gibbons is no Billie Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald, nor does her singing stand up to comparisons with Liz Fraser or Shara Nelson. She has a frail, wispy ... Read More:

Misery is the thing here and a finely articulated misery at that.

It's difficult to imagine anyone cracking a smile in the studio
during the recording of this, The Breeders, fourth album.

Jollity is not of course a prerequisite for fine music.
There is something quite admirable about the consistently po-faced
frown and pout managed here by Ms(s) Deal and Mr(s) Lopez and Medeles.

The band, none-the-less, often manage to achieve unintentional hilarity.

'Here No More' is the kind droll minor key country hoot Ms Welch would be proud to have written.

'Night Of Joy' a dour promise of anything but.

The stripped-down minimalism of 'Mountain Battles' a near masterpiece
in potential ... Read More:
